MINI Thailand unveils the new MINI Hatch and MINI Convertible with unique LED rear lights in a Union Jack design.
Bangkok – MINI Thailand is strengthening its distinctive character and British appeal with the stylishly refined MINI Hatch 3-door, MINI Hatch 5-door, MINI Convertible and 3-door MINI John Cooper Works. The new visual touches can be seen in the logo, headlights, wheels and the interior as well as the unique rear lights with their Union Jack-inspired design. A rear-view camera system with park distance control has been added for convenience. The new MINI range also features new engines and 7-speed, double-clutch Steptronic transmission that saves on fuel and is more environmentally friendly, reinforcing MINI Thailand’s commitment in progressing towards leadership in the premium compact car market with stylish design and cutting-edge innovations.
New bright and dazzle-free circular headlights
Strikingly accentuated through a black panel, the standard halogen headlights are available in the MINI Cooper and Cooper D. The modified design of the circular headlights makes its debut in the MINI Cooper S, which comes with LED lights that deliver brighter illumination in both low and high beams. The daytime running LED and the turn indicator light are integrated into a ring that surrounds the entire contour of the headlight and will switch from white to yellow to indicate each turn.
The adaptive LED headlights in the new MINI John Cooper Works Hatch automatically adjust their brightness to the situation on the road as well as to the steering angles. The high beam segments are controlled based on the situation on the road by the Matrix light technology that works simultaneously with the MINI front camera to register an oncoming vehicle and thus automatically switches from high beam to low beam brightness in the space that the vehicle occupies while the remaining areas of the road continue to be illuminated at high beam.
New rear lights with Union Jack design embody the British soul
To stress the brand's British origin, MINI has incorporated the distinctive Union Jack design with the structure of the LED light functions to recreate the flag motif in the rear lights of the MINI Cooper S and MINI John Cooper Works Hatch. The brake lights are vertically arranged and the turn indicators are horizontally aligned, with the tail light additionally representing the diagonal lines of the British flag when the lights turn on. This will highlight the harmonious lighting effect and the flag graphic’s details in the rear lights.
The new minimal mini logo
The new MINI logo is clear and authentic in style featuring a two-dimensional “flat design”. The logo appears on the bonnet, tailgate, steering wheel, and remote control in all models. It is a re-interpretation of the existing logo that reflects the new identity with its focus on MINI key values – namely driving fun, distinctive design and premium quality.
Three new body finishes in striking colours
The range of body finishes available for the new MINI 3-door, the new MINI 5-door and the new MINI Convertible includes three variants – Emerald Grey Metallic, Starlight Blue Metallic and Solaris Orange Metallic. The Cooper S takes style a step further with a customised sporty Piano Black Exterior, which gives the surrounds of the headlights, rear lights and radiator grille a high-gloss black finish instead of chrome.
Additionally, the options for available light alloy wheels have been extended to include 4 varieties, namely the 16-inch light alloy wheels in Victory Spoke Black style, 17-inch Roulette Spoke 2-tone, 17-inch light alloy wheels in Rail Spoke 2-tone, plus 18-inch MINI Yours Vanity Spoke 2-tone design, which stands out with MINI Yours' uniquely customised wheel trims.
New interior surfaces as option for MINI Convertible
A broad selection of seat and interior surfaces add a touch of individual style to the interior of the new MINI Convertible. Seat and interior surfaces now feature Chester leather, Malt Brown leather, Cross Punch Carbon Black leather and a newly added Lounge Satellite Grey leather, all curated to match a variety of tastes and lifestyles. The MINI convertible is truly eye-catching with the roof down, showcasing its every detail along the road.
Increasing driving fun and efficiency with a further developed engine and the new 7-speed Steptronic transmission with double clutch
A detailed revision of the engines offered for the new MINI 3-door, the new MINI 5-door and the new MINI Convertible mainly benefits driving fun. All petrol engines feature petrol direct injection with the maximum pressure increased from 200 to 350 bar and turbocharger blades made of highly heat-resilient material. The common rail direct injection in the diesel engines ensures that fuel is fed to the combustion chambers with even greater precision. For the first time, the engine covers are made of lightweight carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) to maximise efficiency.
The new MINI Hatch and MINI Convertible are powered by engines with MINI TwinPower Turbo technology, ranging from a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine for MINI Cooper and Cooper D to a 2-litre, 4-cylinder engine for the MINI Cooper S, which tops out at 192 hp and produces a maximum torque of 280 Nm.
The MINI Cooper and Cooper S also come equipped with a 7-speed Steptronic sports transmission with double clutch, operated by a newly designed electronic gear selector lever. The new transmission type is characterised by very fast gearshifts, enabling extremely sporty acceleration manoeuvres without torque interrupt. Meanwhile, the new MINI John Cooper Works Hatch comes with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission that provides snappy, race-grade response for enjoyment on every drive.
The new MINI Cooper 3-door Hatch is catapulted to a maximum speed of 210 hp and maximum torque of 220 Nm, speeding to 100 km/h from a standstill in 7.8 seconds, while the new MINI Cooper S 5-door Hatch sports a maximum speed of 192 hp and maximum torque of 280 Nm, racing from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. Boasting a powerful speed at 192 hp and maximum torque of 280 Nm, the new MINI Cooper S Convertible accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.
New multifunction steering wheel and control display
The newly designed three-spoke steering wheel in the MINI 3-door, MINI 5-door and MINI Convertible now features multifunction buttons. From the left-hand control panel, it is possible to activate the Speed Limit Device to set a maximum speed, while the audio and communication controls are on the right. The standard trim also includes an audio system with 6.5- or 8.8-inch touchscreen control display in the central instrument navigation system and mobile phone integration via Bluetooth as well as MINI Connected technology, which enables seamless integration between the vehicle and the smartphone.
MINI logo protection and telephony with wireless charging
The optional MINI Excitement Package now features the unique MINI logo projection on the driver's side. When the vehicle is opened and closed, the new MINI logo is projected onto the ground in front of the door from a light source in the exterior mirror.
The latest innovative equipment, like telephony with wireless charging option, has now been brought to the MINI John Cooper Works. A storage compartment integrated in the centre armrest offers this capability by simply putting compatible mobile phones on the deck to enable wireless charging. This option also includes a second USB socket in the front section of the centre console.
